We had an excellent class on March 20th, "Balayage Blondes!" Students came from different parts of the country and we had a good mix of first-timers and academy veterans. The focus was on creating bright blondes without the use of foils. Below is a before/after pics of one of our demo models.
Next class is May 8 - "The Painted Cut" that combines balayage with haircutting and features Eva's razor cutting techniques!
We're super excited that Eva Scrivo will be a headline speaker and will perform two color/cut demos, "Blonde Theory" and "The Painted Cut," at the ABS ColorFest in Chicago, being held March 26 - 27! We hope to see you there!
The Power Blonde is a bright, striking hair color that is a status symbol and personification of success which says, “I can afford the best!” It is the celebrity color that looks explosive on the runway and is a real head-turner. It starts with understanding advanced color theory to create the most sought-after and difficult to formulate base colors, levels 8 and 9 ash, followed by strategically applied Balayage highlights, processed for just the right amount of time. Students learned how to lift dark natural colors and effectively control gold and red pigments, while covering grey and choosing the appropriate blond tone to illuminate a client’s complexion.
In this class, students reviewed both the latest trends in hair color, as well as classic looks for the more mature, professional woman, a colorist’s bread and butter client. In addition to the focus on the Power Blonde, students covered everything from Balayage basics, proper tools, and color theory, to advanced techniques and the nuances of placement and processing, regardless of the desired outcome.
Take a look at our model transformation below!
In the eyes of our clients, we are not just hairstylists or colorists. We are designers with the power to transform by making the most of what nature gave them. Incorporating all of the tools at your disposal to effectively design a complete look takes not only expertise, but a keen eye and a clear understanding of how to balance shapes with color. Skillfully combining cutting and coloring to create beautiful transformations is the true art of our craft and the best business-building tool you can master. The Painted Cut is our proprietary cut/color technique, designed with this philosophy in mind. The hair is layered using a combination of razor and scissors, then strategically painted with highlights and lowlights to bring out the shape of the cut and give it depth and dimension.
In this class, students learned our approach to designing the right look for a client based on her facial features, head shape, lifestyle, and hair texture; razor cutting techniques and how to effectively combine the razor with scissors; as well as Eva’s proprietary Balayage hair painting techniques and formulation.

Our second workshop on transformations and color correction using balayage was held on Monday, August 17th at our Bond St. salon.
Eva spent the morning going over the nuances of this particular art form, with emphasis on how balayage can be used in corrective color services. Two live models were provided as demonstration for the class, both with extensive haircolor history. After a quick break for lunch, students were invited to practice their technique on mannequins, with the assistance of Eva and our other educators. Take a peek at the before and after shots of our models, below.
